Members of the House of Representatives have declined a proposal for the president to be required to obtain more than 50 per cent of the votes in the presidential election.
The proposed legislation, introduced by Awaji-inombek Abiante (PDP, Rivers), aims to require presidential and gubernatorial candidates to receive more than 50 per cent of all votes in order to be declared the winners.
The bill also sought to revise the 1999 constitution by eliminating the requirement for a simple majority for presidential and gubernatorial candidates.
