No fewer than 1,381 batch A stream II corps members have been sworn in by the Chief Judge of Gombe State Justice Halima Mohammed, at Amada temporary orientation camp Akko Local Government Area.

The 1,381 corps members comprise 723 male and 658 female, were sworn in after taking the oath of allegiance, which was administered on behalf of Mohammed by Justice Fatima Musa.

According to the Gombe State National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, the corps members have shown patriotism, stressing that they are good ambassadors of their homes and schools.

She said, “Your Excellency Sir, at the close of registration a total of 1381 Corps Members comprising of 723 male and 658 Female were registered. I wish to report that since their registration, they have exhibited high level of moral standard and willingness to contribute
their quota to the development of Gombe state and compliment the efforts of His Excellency.

“The task ahead of the camp officials is to create an enabling environment for the realisation of the objectives of the scheme to include the promotion of national unity and integration.. Your assemblage as a mini Nigeria will afford you all a broader understanding of Gombe state and entrench in you the culture of working together to achieve a great and prosperous Nigeria. We as operators of the scheme are ready and committed to the realisation of this important goal.”

While lauding government for the far-reaching interventions to corps members in the state and on camp, Nwachuku decried the lack of water adding, “Your Excellency Sir, let me use this medium to appreciate you and your management team on your immense support to the calendar of activities of the scheme in the state. The immediate challenge hampering the success of this camp is water. The soil configuration around the camp does not support the recharge of water from the water table which makes it particularly impossible for the sinking of boreholes or digging of large diameter wells, thus our resort to patronizing water vendors for water needs in the camp. More so; because of dry season the water table is very low coupled with current hash economic realities make water issue by implication very tasking on the NYSC. Our plea is for rescue and assistance from your Excellency.”

She commended the governor for the permanent orientation camp in Yalmatu Deba adding “Your Excellency Sir, let us also use this medium to appreciate you further on your effort at providing another permanent orientation camp for the scheme in the state after the previous one was taken for national rehabilitation purpose. On-behalf of the Director – General, His Management team, Staff and Corps Members in Gombe state, we wish to place on record our profound gratitude to His Excellency.”

Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Inuwa Adamu, commended the batch for accepting to do service in Gombe State.

He said, “I congratulate and welcome you to Gombe State, ‘The Jewel in the Savannah’ Gombe is a cosmopolitan State known for promotion of peaceful coexistence and business enterprise. The State is enriched with abundant human and natural resources, rich cultural heritage with agricultural produce which also, promotes healthy commercial trade.”

Yahaya lauded the ideals of the NYSC, urging corps members to pay attention to rededicate themselves to ensuring the goals are actualised.

“My dear corps members, I enjoin you to pay utmost attention to this noble call to serve our great nation and rededicate yourselves to achieving the Scheme’s goal of national unity, integration and development.

“My fellow compatriots in national service, it is my pleasure to address you today at the official opening/Swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members deployed to Gombe State for national service. This momentous event marks the celebration of your successful completion of academic pursuits that qualified you to answer the clarion call to serve our fatherland here in Gombe State,” the governor added.
