Elon Musk has announced that X will implement a modest fee for new users before they are able to post, like, or bookmark content.
Sharing a post on the official X support handle, the companies stated that this change, effective immediately, will impact new users joining the platform via its website in New Zealand and the Philippines.
X’s primary goal with this subscription fee is to tackle the persistent issues of spam, manipulation, and bot activity that have plagued the platform.

In the post, they stated the move comes as part of X’s ongoing efforts to create a safer and more authentic online environment.
In response to the announcement, users expressed mixed reactions, with some expressing concerns about the end of the free era on X. One user wrote, “This is the start of a huge mistake be very very very careful Is fixing the bot problem worth losing actually users?”
