Less than 24 hours after gunmen attacked two communities in Plateau state and killed no fewer than ten persons,the
the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Hassan Yabanet.
Bandits had reportedly killed ten persons in two separate attacks in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs.
The attacks which occurred in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages on Friday night also left several persons injured with properties including houses of the villagers set ablaze by the gunmen.
The Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the killings in a statement on Saturday
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, had condemned the fresh attacks in the affected communities describing it as a setback to peace efforts in the state.
But in a statement issued in Jos on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police said that Yabanet who was deployed to Plateau State barely one month ago as Commissioner of Police had been removed .
The IGP announced Emmanuel Adesina as the new CP for Plateau .
The Statement which was signed by the Spokesman for the Plateau state Police Command read in part “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has deemed it fit to post CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc* as Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command to take over from his predecessor, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, FCID, psc(+) who has been transferred to take over as CP Benue State Command.
“CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc is the 45th Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command. He hails from Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree, Bsc (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in the year 1990. From there, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan for his Masters degree in Criminology in the year 1991.
“He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 18th May, 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). As a young officer, the Commissioner of Police has served with distinction in operational, investigative and administrative capacities across various Police divisions, zones and State Commands within the Federation, among which includes; Anambra, Kwara, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Benue States.”
He has also served in the following capacities: Divisional Traffic officer (DTO) in various divisions;Two-time Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Benue State Command;Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in various divisions;Unit Commander, 29 PMF Awka, Anambra State ;2i/c Squadron Commander, 15 PMF Ilorin;2i/c State Intelligence Department (SID) Oyo State Command ;Area Commander, Railway western district Ibadan;Assistant Commissioner of Police State, CID, Ekiti State and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations, Benue State.
The statement added, “Consequent upon his promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), he was recalled back to Benue State Command in 2016, to restore back peace and normalcy to the State due to his valiant personality and his vast experience in operations, investigation and administration.
“Upon his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) in December 2023, he was posted to Benue State Command as CP Command, from where he was posted to Plateau State Command as the 45th Commissioner of Police.
“Some of the Courses attended by the CP are, Weapon of Mass Destruction First Respondent Awareness Course – 2003;Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU) – 2014;Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU) Italy – 2007;Community Policing Course – 2009; Intermediate Command Course, Staff, College Jos, – 2010;Pointman Strategic Course – 2011;Strategic Leadership and Command Course, Staff College Jos, – 2019
