The Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, on Tuesday said President Bola Tinubu has prioritised sustainable transportation network nationwide.

Alkali made this disclosure during the commissioning of Ibrahim Dankwambo ultra-modern motor park opposite Federal College of Education Technical, Gombe.

According to him, the current is undertaking projects geared towards improving road and rail transportation.

He said, “Your Excellencies, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, the development of a modern, safe, secure and sustainable transportation network is a priority of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Pursuant to the execution of that mandate, the Federal Ministry of Transportation under my watch,

is currently undertaking several key projects and programmes in

the rail and road sectors designed to achieve Mr. President’s

vision for the sector.”

Alkali disclosed that converting an existing gasoline-powered vehicle to a vehicle than runs on both compressed natural gas (CNG) and gasoline showed government seriousness to making life easier.

“In the road sector, government is equally pursuing extensive initiatives to ease road travel within Nigeria such as the proposed CNG conversion programmes for vehicles on our roads as well as

the continuous enhancement of security on our road corridors in order to restore road travel to its pride of place. Our vision is to partner with State Governments and private sector operators to create a seamless network of road and rail infrastructure for the

benefit of all our people.

“Within the context of this overall vision, this Ultra -Modern Mega Motor Park is therefore a creative and timely addition to the state’s infrastructural masterplan and once more demonstrates

Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s record of delivering life-changing and

progressive projects since he assumed office in 2019,” he added.

Senator Dankwambo, who was represented by Abubakar Bello, lauded the governor’s gesture of naming the park after him, adding “in Gombe your wife can be in APC and husband in PDP, politics should not divide them.”

On his part, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, said the completion of the park was an attempt to provide the needed infrastructure in the state.

Yahaya explained that it was inherited by his government from the previous administration led by Dankwambo.

“Naming this ultra-modern motor park after him is a testament that governance transcends political affiliation. It’s in recognition to his invaluable contributions to the progress of our dear state.

According to him, when he assumed office he met the project at 43 per cent completion initially it was awarded at N3.29 billion and reviewed twice 2016 and 2018 by Dankwambo’s government bringing it to about 45 per cent completion.

“In 2020, my administration revised the contract to N7.65 billion with additional features,” he added.
