The wife of Adamawa Governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, has inaugurated the Primary and Secondary Schools Gardens’ Initiative of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Speaking during the inauguration on Thursday in Yola, Fintiri, represented by the Education Commissioner, Dr Umar Pella, said the best school in the state would get a prize of N25 million under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the first lady.
According to her, she will also be awarding additional prizes to the top three schools that excel in their gardening projects.
“The first prize will be N1 million, the second prize will be N500,000, and the third prize will be N300,000.
“These prizes are meant to encourage healthy competition, foster creativity, and reward excellence among our students and schools,” she said.
Fintiri explained that the initiative, championed by Tinubu, aimed to reverse the trend by reviving the old system of school gardens.
“Thereby instilling a zeal for agriculture in the hearts of our youth and inspiring them to explore careers in farming, agribusiness, or agricultural research.
“This practical approach to learning will help them develop skills that are critical for their personal growth and the sustainable development of our nation,” she said.
Fintiri further urged all the stakeholders to embrace the initiative, nurture and take care of these gardens for a more prosperous future for all.
In his remarks, Mr Samuel Wagereng, acting Executive Secretary, Post Primary Schools Management Board, expressed delight at having such an initiative.
According to him, the garden initiative will help school leavers to earn a living.
He charged all the Principals to embrace the initiative to enable their schools win the prizes.
