In a statement released by Wole Adedoyin, President of SYNW, the society paid tribute to Prof. Ayo Banjo’s remarkable life and legacy.

According to the Statement, “Professor Ayo Banjo’s passing comes just 22 days after celebrating his 90th birthday, marking the end of an era for Nigerian literature and education. Prof. Banjo’s influence extended far beyond the confines of the university, touching the lives of countless students, scholars, and writers across the nation.”

“As an Emeritus Professor of English Language, Prof. Ayo Banjo leaves behind a rich and enduring legacy. His scholarly works, dedication to teaching, and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the literary landscape of Nigeria. His contributions to academia, particularly his insights into language and literature, will continue to inspire generations of writers and literary sholars.”

“Throughout his illustrious career, Prof. Banjo served as a beacon of knowledge and wisdom, nurturing young minds and shaping the intellectual discourse of his time. His passion for education was matched only by his profound love for literature, evident in his numerous publications and scholarly achievements. As a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, he played a pivotal role in advancing the institution’s academic standing and fostering a culture of intellectual inquiry.”

“The loss of Prof. Ayo Banjo is keenly felt not only within the academic community but also among writers and literary enthusiasts nationwide.
