A Bill to provide for the establishment of Gombe State Disability Protection Law and the establishment of Gombe State Disability Commission and other matters 2024 has on Tuesday passed its first and second readings on the floor of the state House of Assembly.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the house has committed to the Committee on Women Affairs and Special Duties with six weeks mandate to scrutinise and report back to the assembly for passage into Law.
The Bill is a private member bill sponsored by Honourable Shuaibu Adamu Haruna, member representing Kwami East Constituency along with Honourable Musa Buba (Balanga North), Hon. Nasiru Abdulkarim (Dukku North) and Adamu Sale Pata (Yamaltu East) as co-sponsors.
Advocacy for Disability Act Cluster alongside five Civil Society Organisations under the SCALE project implemented by Inclusive Friends Association have been at the forefront canvasing for the speedy passage and assent.
The bill when eventually passed and assented will protect the rights of Persons With Disabilities in the state. It will entrench the much needed sense of belonging.
