No fewer than three persons have been arrested by Gombe State Police command over theft of railway slippers belonging to Nigeria Railway Corporation.
Briefing Journalists on Friday the Public Relations Officer ASP Buhari Abdullahi, said they caught by a resident moving critical government infrastructures.
The paraded suspects include Ibrahim Yauta aged 30 years of Unguwar Uban-doma quarters Liji Yamaltu /Deba Local Government Area, Kasimu Umar, aged 26 years of Bogo garin-waziri bye-pass Gombe and Yusuf Mohammed aged 32 years of Kofar Sarkin Liji.
According to him, the suspects were arrested on the 29th May 2024, following credible intelligence received from a good samaritan that they were seen carrying railway tracks.
He said, “The said suspects who specialised in vandalising critical government infrastructures have vandalised iron components at Liji rail track in Yamaltu/Deba LGA.
“During interrogation the suspects confessed to their crime and mentioned one Shuaibu Sa’idu, aged 36 years of Unguwa Uku quarters Gombe as the receiver. Exhibits recovered include; 42 rail track iron plates concealed inside a white Pick-up van with reg. no. XP693 ABJ loaded with sand to evade being detected.”
While noting that the suspects and the receiver will soon be charged to court, Abdullahi noted that the police welcome partnership from members of the public, “Upon the conclusion of the investigation they will be charged. The Commissioner of Police CP Hayatu Usman appeals to all peace loving people of Gombe State to continue to partner and cooperate with the Command and other sister security agencies by furnishing us with credible information and reporting any suspicious movement of person(s),” Abdullahi added.
