Executive Chairman Adamawa State Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Honourable Umar Iyah Daware, on Thursday commended the partnership existing between the state and United States Agency for International Development Agency State Accountability, Transparency, and Effectiveness, State2State Activity, urging for more support to sustain S2S interventions.
Daware made this commendation at the end of the year five consultative work plan workshop held in Gombe State during an interview with PERISCOPE NIGERIA.
Our correspondent reports that Adamawa USAID S2S had brought stakeholders cutting across Civil Society Organisations, Ministries, Departments and Agencies for a three-day engagement held at Flourish Hotel.
S2S supports states to plan and budget, raise revenues, increase civil society participation, and oversee service delivery in Health, Education, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene sectors by building relevant capacities.
It’s implemented by Development Alternatives Incorporated.
He said, “This workshop is of great importance to Adamawa State’s activities because it will help us entrench transparency and accountability among the various sectors of governance and we the state representatives have the responsibilities to drive the process and that’s why i felt is very important for me to attend this meeting.”
On his expectations Daware noted that it’s to see that the state deepen’s the reforms across those sectors, adding “We know that S2S is be a veritable partner in driving the process and I’m here calling on them to increase partnership with Fiscal Responsibility Commission because by the act of establishing the commission we have the responsibility to supervise the deepening of reforms and also enhance operational activities across various sectors. So we believe that even after the end of their tenure the main objective is to have a sustainability and i believe that we will be the agency that could drive the process and to sustain it over the coming next years these are my expectations and what i want to call on them to partner more with us so that we can sustain.”
While lauding the Governor of Adamawa State Ahmadu Fintiri for his prudence in financial responsibility, “Is very key because one cannot achieve good thing if you are not a good manager of resources other governors should emulate him by taking the lead of enhancing the prudent management of their resources so that they can provide dividends of democracy to the people that elected them,” he added.
