In a chaotic finale at Hard Rock Stadium, Lautaro Martinez’s extra-time heroics secured Argentina’s 16th Copa America title, defeating Colombia 1-0 in a tensed encounter.
Despite security concerns marring the start of the event, the Argentine team shrugged off the chaos to force an emphasising win.
The match began with a cautious approach from both sides, but Colombia’s determination to end their 21-year wait for a major trophy soon turned the game into an intense battle. Argentina, however, stood firm, with their defense holding strong despite the loss of their talisman Leonel Messi to injury in the 66th minute.
In a dramatic twist, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez rose to the occasion, scoring at 112 minutes to give Argentina the lead that shattered the Los Cafeteros’ dreams.
This victory marks Argentina’s first consecutive Copa America titles in the 21st century, while Nestor Lorenzo’s men winning streak comes to an end and their quest for a major trophy since 2001 continues.
