The Federal High Court in Kaduna has rescheduled the hearing of the case brought by ex-governor Nasir El-Rufai against the State House of Assembly and the state’s Attorney General to July 17, 2024.
El-Rufai is questioning the findings of the committee in the house that alleged he was involved in corruption amounting to N423 billion.
During the start of the court session on Monday, Sani Katu, a Senior Advocate representing the first respondent, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, informed the court that they were in the midst of preparing a notice of preliminary objection to contest the court’s authority to handle the case.
The attorney, therefore, asked for an extension of the deadline to ensure they can submit all necessary documents in response to the legal action brought against their client by Nasir El-Rufai.
The request was also made by Kaduna State’s Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Sule Shauaibu, SAN, who is one of the defendants in the case.
Sule Umoru, the applicant’s counsel, concurred with the request for an extension of time.
After carefully considering all the arguments presented by the lawyers, the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, postponed the case until July 17, 2024, to allow the respondents to submit all their necessary applications, including the substantive application.
