The 2023 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Gombe State, Khamisu Mailantarki, has resigned from the party.
Mailantarki was a major boost to the NNPP’s performance in the state, as the party dominated the House of Assembly as major opposition before 2023 poll.
Our correspondent reports that Mailantarki lost the election having been declared third by Independent National Electoral Commission in the 2023 gubernatorial election where Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, candidate of the All Progressives Congress won, followed by candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Jibrin Barde.
According to a resignation letter obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday which was acknowledged by chairman of Herwagana ward, Yakubu Saleh, dated July 10, 2024, Mailantarki lauded the party for the opportunity to serve.

The letter letter partly read, “I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. This will be effective from Wednesday 10th July, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.
“I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as other who saw me through my entire journey in 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP.”
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the former House of Representatives member did not reveal the new political party he would join.
