Former Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is not ruling out becoming a football coach in the future, following in the footsteps of his brother.

Schweinsteiger ended his career, highlighted by winning the Champions League in 2013 and the World Cup the following year, in 2019.

The 39-year-old is now a TV pundit, and he told Monday’s edition of Kicker sports magazine that while he is very satisfied with that role he can see himself being closer to a team again in the future.

“I would like to pass on my knowledge and experience to a team in the future,” he said. Asked about a possible role as coach, he added: “Maybe at some stage.”

Schweinsteiger said there are no concrete plans at the moment.

His brother, Tobias Schweinsteiger, is a coach and last worked at second division side Osnabrück.
