The North-East Development Commission, Gombe office has presented starter packs to beneficiaries who received training on different skills including, learning how to install solar panels, fabricate sustainable stoves, and produce briquettes as a cleaner alternative to traditional charcoal in Gombe State.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the empowerment equipped beneficiaries with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities to take control of their lives, make informed decisions, and reach their full potential, especially with the high rates of youth unemployment, as well as economic hardship in the country.
Presenting the equipment, the NEDC Managing Director Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, who was represented by the acting state Coordinator of the Commission Alhaji Rufa’i Baba Manu, described the training as a process that promotes self-reliance, enabling the youth to overcome challenges, achieve goals, and contribute positively towards socio-economic development.

He said, “the commission decided to train the youth in solar installations, stoves fabrications, and production of briquettes, giving young people the tools they need to succeed in the ever-evolving job market to participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives, and involving individuals, especially Youths.”
Baba Manu further stated that, the goal of the programme was not to provide young people with employable skills as well as promote renewable energy solutions and sustainable practices within the community.
Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, urged the trainees to take advantage of the training towards the socio-economic development of the state and Nigeria at large.
Fawu explained that, his ministry will partner with NEDC, to offer more training programs for youth that will allow them to gain hands-on experience in a variety of important skills to empower youth to become leaders in the green economy and contribute to a more sustainable futures, most especially fabricating sustainable stoves, and produce briquettes as a cleaner alternative to traditional charcoal.
His counterpart from the Ministry of Special Duties, Shehu Yerima Abdullahi said, the youths were given the opportunity to learn valuable skills through a commission that focused on empowerment and renewal energy.
He called on the NEDC to redouble their efforts in investing in youth and providing them with the tools they need to succeed, saying this will go along way in helping them to create a brighter future for the community and the world as a whole.
While commending the NEDC MD Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, and the acting state Coordinator Alhaji Rufa’i Baba Manu, for their tireless efforts and dynamic style of leadership in the commission, he called on the beneficiaries to make use of the knowledge they possess towards the socio-economic development of Gombe state, the North East region, and the country in general.
Participants including Usman Alhaji Bunu, and Danlami Malum Kyari, were enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn new skills and make a positive impact in their lives as they expressed gratitude to NEDC for the chance to gain valuable experience and knowledge that will benefit them in their future careers.
