The Gombe State Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Ethical Orientation, Alhaji Mijinyawa Tilde, has congratulated the newly elected executives of Nigeria Union of Journalists Gombe Council.
Tilde in a press he personally signed on Thursday which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, urged them to give their best to the council and development of the state.
Our correspondent reports the emergence of new executives with Faruk Mu’azu as Chairman; Emmanuel Akila as Vice Chairman; Shuaibu Umar as Secretary; Hauwa Theman as Treasurer; Abubakar Tukur as Assistant Secretary; Bibi Lakuto as Financial Secretary; Halilu Mohammed as Auditor in an election conducted on Wednesday 28th August, 2024.
The Commissioner’s statement partly read, “It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Ethical Orientation, Gombe State, extend warm congratulations to the newly elected executives of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Chapter.
“Your election to the esteemed positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Auditor General is a clear reflection of the trust and faith your peers have in your capabilities and leadership qualities. This significant responsibility bestowed upon you is not only a recognition of your past contributions but also an expectation for greater service to the journalism profession and our society.”
Tilde noted that the role of the press in shaping public opinion, fostering transparency, and holding authorities accountable cannot be overstated, adding “Your leadership comes at a critical time when the principles of truth, objectivity, and ethical reporting are more important than ever. I believe that your tenure will be marked by a commitment to these principles, and I encourage you to pursue excellence in all your endeavours.”

He disclosed that the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Ethical Orientation remains a committed partner in the executive quest to elevate the standards of journalism in Gombe State. “We are confident that your leadership will bring positive changes, promote unity within the Union, and inspire the next generation of journalists.
“Once again, congratulations on your successful election. I wish you all a productive and impactful tenure as you lead the NUJ Gombe State Chapter to new heights,” the Commissioner added.
