The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has promised to prioritise social support through empowerment initiatives, while underscoring the hardship residents are enmeshed in.

This was contained in the address of Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture Abdullahi Bego, after a crucial meeting with religious and traditional leaders convened by Buni, on Monday.

Bego disclosed that Buni noted that the Buni-led administration is not unaware of the socio-economic challenges of residents, noting that it will prioritise social support, and community engagement for the much needed development.

Bego said, “The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, will continue to prioritise social support through empowerment schemes and trainings for youths, women and other segments of the population as part of effort to cushion current socio- economic difficulties that people face across the country.

“The state government will also prioritise community engagement through local government councils, traditional institutions, and other relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that people across the state are fully informed about government policies and programmes and are carried on board in their implementation.”

Providing further details on the resolutions of a meeting at the Government House, Damaturu with chairmen of local government councils, 14 Emirs of the state and other senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Secretary to Government of the State, Head of Service, Chief of Staff to the governor and some members of the state executive council, he added, “The meeting emphasised the need for local government and traditional councils to continue to attend to local and community issues in a way that strengthens trust, good neighborliness, and community cohesion.The meeting also stressed the need to provide more avenues for skills and craft training to support yohe need to provident to learn and set up small or medium businesses or go into agriculture and food production.”

The meeting also commended the state government for empowerment support to women and youths across the state, “especially the recent multi- billion-naira agriculture empowerment programme launched by the President, represented by the Vice President, recently and urged the state government to work to ensure that the items reach the intended beneficiaries across the 17 local government areas,” Bego added.
