Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, on Friday commended corps members in the state for impacting the Health, Education, Agriculture and Infrastructure economy of the state.

Yahaya who was represented by Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Inuwa Adamu, made this disclosure while declaring the mandatory three-week course open at Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Our correspondent reports that a total number of 1674 Corps Members were registered at the point of compiling this report, comprising of 903 males and 771 females.

The governor said, “The selfless services of Corps Members have in no small measure contributed greatly to the developmental strides in the Health, Education, Agriculture and Infrastructure sectors of the economy. I make bold to say the Scheme remains a veritable instrument of development and it is my ardent hope that you will join in this rewarding journey of nation building.”

While urging them to remain peaceful as they complete orientation and are posted to communities, Yahaya added, “You should live peacefully with fellow compatriots despite varying cultural and socio-ethnic backgrounds in order to promote the integrity of our nation as one united and indivisible entity. The future of this country lies in your hands, therefore you have a great role to play in shaping our corporate destiny, do not mortgage this unique opportunity that will give room to your rise to greater height and a sustainable future.”

He assured the corps of enabling environment saying “I am aware that the NYSC Scheme established a skill acquisition program for corps members which commences from the orientation camp, I advise you all to take proper advantage of this program and acquire skills for yourselves. You may not see the benefit immediately but it will become an added advantage for you in the wider world. Note that your degree is hardly enough these days, therefore it is vital to have a skill in order to boost your profile.”
“On our part, we will continue to provide an enabling environment for the NYSC Scheme to thrive in the state because we as a government has not only reneged our decision for your comfort, we are equally committed to integrating you into our various developmental programmes for the benefit of all,” he added.
On her part, NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, commended the corps members for their conduct since the commencement of camp activities.
She said, “I wish to place on record, the high level of discipline that has been exhibited by these young men and women since their arrival to the Camp. They have so far comported themselves very well and have adapted very fast to the environment, which is an indication that they are indeed ready to cooperate with the camp officials to achieve maximum success.”
While urging them to look forward to a rewarding year, Nwachuku added, “My dear patriotic Corps Members, let me once again formally welcome you to Gombe State. It is my earnest prayer that you will experience a hitch-free orientation course and by extension record a fruitful, peaceful and fulfilling service year.”
