The Deputy National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists Alhassan Yahaya, on Sunday urged Muslim ummah on peace and unity as they commemorate 2024 Maulud Nabiyy.
Yahaya in a press statement obtained by our correspondent in Gombe, harped the need for peace and unity.
Our correspondent reports that Maulud Nabiyy commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Yahaya is a leading NUJ presidential aspirant in the forthcoming election.
The statement partly read, “On the auspicious occasion of Maulud Nabiyy 2024, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), I, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya, National Deputy President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), extend heartfelt felicitations to all Muslim journalists and the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
“As we celebrate this significant occasion, we are reminded of the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) teachings on unity, peace, compassion, and forgiveness. These values are crucial and we need to embrace them to ensure harmonious co-existence between the diversed countrymen.
“I also urge all Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to intensify supplications for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and progress while marking this festival. Let us include our beloved country in our prayers, seeking divine guidance and intervention to overcome our challenges.”
He urged journalists not to relent in their responsibility of promoting peace, “To my esteemed journalists, I charge you to continue promoting unity, peace, and national cohesion through your reportage. Your role in shaping public discourse and fostering harmony is invaluable.
“As we mark this special day, let us reaffirm our commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress. Let us eschew divisive tendencies and strive for a harmonious coexistence,” NUJ presidential candidate added.
