The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dispatched over 100 trucks to the Dangote Refinery in preparation for the start of fuel loading on Sunday.

The state-owned company shared this news in a brief statement accompanied by several photos showing hundreds of trucks positioned at the indigenous refinery in Lagos State.

NNPC wrote: “In preparation for the Dangote Refinery’s scheduled petrol loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024, NNPC Ltd. has been mobilizing trucks to the refinery’s fuel loading gantry in Ibeju-Lekki.

“As of Saturday afternoon, NNPC Ltd. had deployed over 100 trucks, with hundreds more en route.”

The Nigerian government had previously announced that petrol supply from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos would begin on September 15, following an agreement on pricing and supply terms.

Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products, made this announcement on Friday.

According to Adedeji, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) will be the sole buyer of petrol from the Dangote Refinery, with other marketers sourcing the product from the national oil company.

Additionally, it was revealed that the NNPCL will start supplying 385,000 barrels of crude oil per day to the refinery from October 1, 2024, with payments to be made in Naira.

This development marks a major milestone for the refinery, which is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s fuel production capacity.

Owned by business magnate Aliko Dangote, the Dangote Refinery is seen as a transformative asset for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. With a production capacity of 650,000 barrels of oil per day, the refinery is expected to meet Nigeria’s fuel needs and potentially export surplus products.

The NNPC’s deployment of trucks to the refinery indicates the beginning of a new era in Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.
