The Gombe State Executive Council on Wednesday approved N2.2 billion for the construction of a 7.5-hectare mechanic village near the recently commissioned Ibrahim Dankwambo Mega Motor Park.
Our correspondent reports that the project includes land procurement, infrastructure development, and other essential facilities.
Disclosing this during the briefing of journalists after a SEC meeting presided by Governor Yahaya Yahaya, the Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Engineer Maijama’a Kallamu, also announced council’s approval of N779 million for the installation of additional solar-powered streetlights in the state capital.
He said, “I believe that you are all aware that the Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo mega park is now fully operational as a result of union of drivers and mechanics from tashan Bauchi motor park, tashan Dukku motor park and indeed Gombe Line but the motor park only separate the drivers from the mechanics.
“Before in all these motor parks, both the drivers and mechanics are all in the same place but this time around because of his Excellency passion to continue modernising Gombe State the way this park has been modernised you can equally see that even the mechanics are going to be placed in a separate place, so the place just near by the mega park was embarked for mechanics and indeed spare part vendors so I stead of his Excellency not to leave the place vacant like that he decided to modernise the place by providing basic infrastructure that is roads, water, toilet and also street light within the mechanic village.
“As a result of that a submission was made from the Ministry of Works and Housing for construction of roads another basic infrastructure within the mechanic village and council deliberated and graciously approved the submission the cost of this project is N2,23,606, 52.5 billion that is for this modern mechanic village. Also, you should note that movement to mechanic village and mega park is compulsory. The total sum of the money for the mechanic village does not include tools for the mechanic, it is for fixing the village. All the mechanics in the state can be accommodated in the mechanic village.
“The second one is the solar street lights, as you all know that in Gombe the street light enhances security and beautify Gombe, council approved the addition of street light in about 10km inside Gombe metropolis. This 10km will cost N779,442,409,13 million.”
Kallamu also disclosed the conversion of Liberty Inn to government offices, “Next one is Liberty Guest Inn, in order to provide adequate office accommodation to staff, his Excellency, the executive governor of Gombe State decided to convert Liberty Guest Inn to office accommodation, with that the Ministry submitted proposal for this and it was also approved for the conversion of Liberty Guest In to offices and this will cost N499, 809, 718 million,” he added.
