Following persisting economic challenges in the country especially the North-East region, Minister of Information and National Orientation; Idris Mohammed, on Thursday sensitised Gombe residents on President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s efforts at mitigating sufferings and cushioning the effects.

Our correspondent reports that the hardship was worsened by removal of fuel subsidy, increase on tuition fees by federal varsities among others.

Explaining the various efforts of government, Mohammed who was represented by Head Federal Information Centre Istifanus Saluk, explained that government through it National Education Loan Fund cushioned the effects.
Mohammed said, “NELFUND has disbursed N2,946,927,155.00 billion so far interest-free students loan to Nigerian tertiary institutions and monthly up-keep for 27,667 students.
“Removal of structural, market and policy barriers and acceleration of access to consumer credit through Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation.
“Providing succour to the masses occasioned by transitive hardship of the removal of the fuel subsidy of Federal Government via the Presidential CNG initiative (Pi-CNG).
“Empowering young Nigerians between 18-35 from all regions with knowledge, skills, and mentorship to unlock their potentials to become future leaders.”
PERISCOPE NIGERIA notes that while Mohammed harped the importance of information dissemination he added, “Government has a responsibility to provide development; the people should be proactive to seeking information. Sensitising the citizenry is not just about sharing information but empowering the people when people take advantage of information it can bring development to the economy. The Federal Government is committed to improving lives of Nigerians.”
On his part, General Manager of Radio Nigeria Jewel FM Dr Garba Danbata, who was the guest speaker emphasised on the essence of information dissemination and utilisation.
He disclosed that most of the interventions of Federal Government were verifiable, urging residents to work towards getting involved, “by demanding the allotted share of each of their states that Federal Government has provided in other to benefit.”
