The National Chairman of Labour Party Julius Abure, has clarified how campaign funds were disbursed, saying that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, authorised Aisha Yesufu, and Pastor Ituah Ighodalo to handle funds.
He said, “The funding of the election itself was carried out by Peter Obi; the party was never involved in the distribution of those resources.”
“We followed them sheepishly and allowed them to administer the campaign funds, Abure said while making clarification on the allegations that the campaign, election donations, and funds for the payment of agents were mismanaged by the Party, hence Peter Obi failed in the election.
He added, “The campaign account: OBI/BABA-AHMED CAMPAIGN ACCOUNT; Zenith Bank – 1241950451; Sterling Bank – 0091657896; Heritage Bank – 1400234900; Globus Bank – 1000128194.”
He mentioned that the individuals who signed these accounts were Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo. Both were also accountable for the compensation of the Polling Unit Agents.
While reacting on the alleged threat by Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, Abure said they were duly elected so nobody had the right to dissolve his cabinet.
“No governor to whom we have issued a ticket can harass us out of office; no governor, no matter how highly placed, will come to dissolve the NWC, dissolve state councils, or dissolve LG councils; even a military government would not do that,” he added.
