Gombe, Nigeria – The United States Agency for International Development State Accountability, Transparency, and Effectiveness State2State activity recently held a quarterly conflict prevention and mitigation dialogue.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the two-day workshop, which took place from September 5-6, 2024, brought together stakeholders from various ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as traditional and religious leaders.

The dialogue aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the linkages and potential impact of the push and pull factors of the drivers of conflict on internal revenue generation and service delivery, especially in basic education, primary healthcare, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) to citizens in Gombe State.
Lead Facilitator Mathias Daji Yake, who also serves as Conflict Specialist for Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe States, led the intervention of the activity at Emerald Royal Hills Hotel in Gombe State.
Yake outlined the objectives of the dialogue, which included providing progress updates on the implementation of the previous quarters’ action plans on agreed next steps, key results achieved, challenges encountered, and lessons learned; sharing experiences of stakeholders’ efforts in addressing drivers of conflicts in Gombe state; increasing stakeholders’ knowledge, understanding, and skills in the use of different approaches to conflict mitigation and prevention; and identifying any emerging pull and push drivers of conflict and their impact on internal revenue generation and service delivery.
Through interactive sessions, participants discussed various topics, including updates on the implementation of previous quarters’ dialogues’ action plans, stakeholders’ efforts in addressing drivers of conflict, conflict mitigation mechanisms, Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) dynamics, and the impact of conflict on service delivery. They also developed an action plan to guide the implementation of recommendations from the dialogue.
The quarterly dialogue our correspondent gathered serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and implement interventions aimed at preventing violent conflicts, thereby contributing to government initiatives and programs in line with the principle of “do-no-harm.”
The dialogue further used multistakeholder approach to develop, implement, and track action plans to prevent and mitigate conflicts.
