Lagos Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists on Saturday endorsed Alhassan Yahya for President and Abimbola Oyetunde, as Deputy President.

Periscope Nigeria reports that the endorsement is a sequel to the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference in Owerri, November 2024.
This endorsement will serve as a boost to the candidacy of A+A team following the vibrancy of the Lagos Council in determination of past NUJ leaders.

This was contained in a press statement jointly signed by Council’s Secretary Tunde Olalere and communique drafting committee; Jerry Aguigbo, Chizoba Anuforom and Iyabo Aina.
The statement partly read, “The Lagos Council of NUJ adopted Alhassan Yahya and Abimbola Oyetunde for the posts of President and Deputy President respectively at the forthcoming Triennial Delegates Conference scheduled for Owerri in November.”
Other key resolutions from the congress include the urgent need for Lagos State Government to revive its ‘Onje Eko’ food support program to alleviate the suffering of Lagosians by reducing food prices.
The council condemned journalists who took the NUJ national body to court, labeling it an anti-union practice.
The council commended the Nigeria Police in Lagos for curbing kidnapping and called for recognition of outstanding officers.
The council emphasised the need for media owners to prioritise staff salaries and pensions.
The council appreciated the Lagos State House of Assembly’s intervention in the model colleges’ boarding fee hike and urged government support for parents.
The council praised LASTMA for dismissing officials due to misconduct, serving as a deterrent.
