Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has criticized Bola Tinubu’s administration over the severe economic hardship in the country, stating that many Nigerians are silently struggling.

Ahmad wrote on X: “Truly, many people are struggling silently in these times of critical economic hardship. They shouldn’t have to beg or show their need for our support.

“Let’s extend a helping hand to as many people as we can, even when they don’t ask for it. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Encourage those in your circle to also do the same.”

The statement follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raising the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to N1,030 per litre.

Many Nigerians have condemned this latest fuel price hike.

DAILY POST recalls that economists had warned the number of Nigerians living below the poverty line could soon surpass the 104 million projected by the World Bank in 2023.

This projection came after the recent petrol price increase in September 2024, combined with the ongoing food supply challenges affecting the country.

The World Bank reported that the poverty rate in Nigeria rose to 46 percent in 2023, representing 104 million Nigerians living in poverty.

He said, “Truly, many people are struggling silently, in these times of critical economic hardship. They shouldn’t have to beg or show their need for our support. Let’s extend a helping hand to as many as we can, even when they don’t ask for it.”
