Gombe State Executive Council has approved a contract worth N160,616,400 million monthly to Cosmopolitan Limited for desilting, cleaning, and waste management services in the metropolis.
Our correspondent reports that this contract covers 191 kilometers and aims to tackle the growing issue of dump sites and improper waste disposal.
Commissioner for Environment, Water, and Forest Resources Mohammed Fawu, emphasised the need for reengaging reliable vendors or finding new ones to ensure continuity of these essential services.
He disclosed that the contract runs from December 1, 2024, to November 30, 2025, adding that it demonstrates the state government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public health. “By investing heavily in waste management, they aim to create a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. We are satisfied with Cosmopolitan Cleaners Limited,” he stated, highlighting the company’s effective work in maintaining a clean environment.
Fawu urged the public to cooperate, citing the increasing cost of governance due to improper waste disposal habits. “Very soon, government will come up with a framework whereby the general public will subsidise the cost of this service,” he warned, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
