The Nigeria Union of Journalists Zone E has endorsed Alhassan Yahya as their sole candidate for the forthcoming Delegates Conference in Owerri, Imo State, on November 27, 2024.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that this endorsement is a testament to Alhassan’s acceptability by NUJ members nationwide and his experience as the longest-serving NEC member.
Comrade Zare Baba, the Vice President of Zone E, presided over the zonal meeting in Gombe, where the endorsement was made. The meeting attended by Chairmen and Secretaries of Councils and National Officers from the zone, both physically and via Zoom, demonstrated a unified support for Alhassan’s candidacy.
According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, “The meeting endorsed Comrade Alhassan Yahya as the sole candidate of Zone E for the forthcoming Delegates Conference of the Union.” This endorsement is expected to boost Alhassan’s chances in the election.
Alhassan has also received endorsements from other councils, including the Lagos NUJ Council and the Enugu NUJ Council Delegates, who adopted him as their preferred presidential candidate. The Gombe State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has also announced their endorsement of Alhassan, citing his leadership abilities.
With these endorsements, Alhassan Yahya is poised to lead the Nigeria Union of Journalists in the forthcoming election. As one of the supporting councils noted, “Alhassan’s experience and leadership abilities make him the best candidate for the position.”
COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ZONAL MEETING OF ZONE E’ OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ)
The zonal meeting of Zone E of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) was held in Gombe on Monday, November 18, 2024. The meeting was presided over by Comrade Zare Baba, the Vice President of Zone E, and attended by Chairmen and Secretaries of Councils and National Officers from the zone, with some participating via Zoom.
RESOLUTIONS:
1. Endorsement of Alhassan Yahya: The meeting endorsed Comrade Alhassan Yahaya as the sole candidate of Zone E for the forthcoming Delegates Conference of the Union on 27th of November, 2024 in Owerri, Imo State. This endorsement is based on his acceptability by NUJ members nationwide and his experience as the longest-serving NEC member.
2. Adoption of Dr. Oyetunde Abimbola: The zone adopted Dr. Oyetunde Abimbola as its Deputy National Presidential Candidate in the said election.
3. Endorsement of Zare Baba and Abubakar Musa Waziri: The meeting also adopted Comrade Zare Baba as its sole candidate to contest for his current position as Vice President and Abubakar Musa Waziri as the Zonal Secretary in the forthcoming Delegates Conference.
APPRECIATION AND COMMENDATIONS:
– Borno State Governor: The zonal leaders commended Professor Babagana Zulum for appointing Alhaji Dauda Iliya, former NUJ State Chairman, as his Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media.
.Taraba State Governor: The meeting also commended Dr. Agbu Kefas for appointing David Nya, former Chairman of the NUJ in the state, as a Permanent Secretary.
– Gombe State Governor: The meeting appreciated Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for measures taken towards completing the NUJ Press Centre in Gombe.
– Media Aides and Information Managers: The meeting expressed gratitude to Media Aides and Information Managers to the Governors in the zone for supporting journalists in the Northeast.
