A clash between Fulani herdsmen and youths from Lano village in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State has left one person dead and two others hospitalised.

According to a press release by the Gombe State Public Relations Officer ASP Buhari Abdullahi, on Sunday the clash occurred on December 7, 2024, when a group of youths from Lano village barricaded the Lano-Deba road, attacked Fulani herdsmen crossing from Kuri village, and killed five of their cows.
The youths allegedly attacked the herdsmen on suspicion that they had collected phones from farmers in the area and prevented them from conveying their farm produce.
“We received information that a group of youths from Lano village barricaded the Lano-Deba road and attacked Fulani herdsmen, killing five of their cows,” said ASP Abdullahi.
He disclosed that the police were alerted, and the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene to contain the situation stressing that despite efforts to calm the situation, some youths from Lano refused to listen and pursued the Fulani herdsmen into the bush, resulting in three persons being shot with bows and arrows.
“The victims were rushed to the General Hospital Deba for medical attention but were later referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, where one of the victims died from stomach injuries.
“Normalcy has been restored, and policemen and vigilantes are patrolling the area to ensure the safety of villagers, Fulani herdsmen, and other road users,” said Abdullahi.
