After years of suffering through civil war, Syrians deserve a life of freedom and security, the chancellor argued.
The country’s new rulers must ensure this, Scholz said. “We will work with them on this basis.”
Some Syrian refugees in Germany hope to soon return to their home country, Scholz added. “We will also support this as soon as the situation allows,” he said.
However, Syrians who are well integrated in Germany will remain welcome in the country, Scholz said.
