In light of recent tragic events in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the aftermath of the disaster and providing necessary support to the victims. While the government has been proactively working to prevent such calamities, the recent event has underscored the need for further measures to safeguard the community.

The position of the government was made clear by a high-powered government delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Jatau when the delegation visits Yamaltu and Deba Emirates on a condolence and peace advocacy visit.

The Deputy Governor assured citizens that a comprehensive response mechanism has been activated to address both immediate and long-term needs, extending investigations to the surrounding environment, neighboring LGAs, and even beyond the state in order to find a sustainable solution to the crisis.

He said, “even though LGA Chairman has already provided immediate assistance to those affected, the state government has also stepped in, offering further support to the victims. In addition, both the Emir of Yamaltu and the Emir of Deba have expressed their condolences to those affected by the tragedy. “A powerful delegation, representing the state government, has been sent to Yamaltu Deba LGA to offer their sympathies and ensure that the people’s needs are met during this difficult time”.

“The state government has urged all residents of Gombe State to uphold the peaceful and law-abiding reputation the region is known for.”

Jatau emphasised the importance of cooperating with security agencies, particularly in identifying those responsible for the crime, pointing out that Local authorities have been working closely with security agents to ensure a swift and effective response to the crisis.

He appealed to citizens to report issues accurately and promptly to competent authorities, as this can help minimize further harm. “Let us all remain vigilant and united in these challenging times,” he added.

He extended the government’s heartfelt prayers for the victims, asking that the departed souls rest in peace and that the wounded recover swiftly, saying, “We came from God, and to Him, we shall all return.”

In their separate responses, the Emir of Yamaltu, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, and Dr Ahmad Usman Mohammed appreciated the concern shown them by the government at their trying period.

They expressed displeasure over the ugly incidence and pledged to support the government in the quest to creating a peaceful environment for people to be free to engage in their legitimate activities without fear of molestation.

The Emir of Yamaltu appealed to the government to extend such advocacy visits to other local governments, Emirates and Chiefdoms to sensitise the public on the need to live a peaceful life towards the well being of all.

Those in the delegation include, the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Chief of Staff Government House, Alh Abubakar Inuwa Kari, Honourable Commissioners, Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency, Alh Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi, Representatives of the Police Commissioner, Commandant Civil Defence Corps, and Commander 301 Artillery Regiment, Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed, Director-General Gombe State Traffic, and Environmental Corps as well as Permanent Secretaries among others.

In another development, the delegation also sympathised with the family of the Chairman, Gombe State House of Assembly Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, over the demise of his daughter Dr Zainab.

Condoling the family at his Buba Shongo residence near the deputy governor’s office, the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor  Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi urged the family to accept the death as one of the natural phenomena that can happen to all mortals.

He said government is shocked over the news of the sudden death of the deceased and because ordinarily parents would have wished to be buried by their children and not the other way round.

He admonished them and all sympathisers to learn from this and be prepared for their own end since death has no protocol.

The father of the deceased appreciated the concern by the government to condole with them over the death praying God to reward them.

He expressed his consolation on how his daughter lived a peaceful life with those she came across.
