The Gombe State Executive Council has approved N4.205 billion for payment of gratuities to 2,204 retirees.
Disclosing this after SEC meeting presided by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Jatau, disclosed that the sum approved will be used to sort retirees from 2019 -2020.
The deputy governor said, “We came in 2019 after clearing the backlog we had to face those that retired under this administration 2019 -2020 a total number of 2,204. Government has approved the sum of N4.205 billion. This government has paid N17.235 billion as gratuities.”
Jatau explained that the present administration has managed to clear gratuities owed from 2014 – 2018, using N8.571 billion to 5,658.
He said, “When this government came in it realised that gratuities for retirees between 2014 and 2018 were not paid. The total number of retirees in difficult trend was 5,658 for state retirees. This government looked out for them with pity and has paid the sum of N8.571 billion to 5,658.”
Speaking further Jatau added, “Similarly, retirees of the local government totalled 6027 government has paid 4.9 billion to the retirees.”
