A military base in Wajiroko, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, came under attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday, leaving scores of Nigerian armed forces personnel injured.
According to local sources, the attack occurred around 3 pm, with the insurgents using a drone to carry out the assault. While the military has yet to confirm the incident, sources claim that some soldiers may have lost their lives in the attack.
“We heard a sound from the base, and at a point, smoke was seen in the air. The way that thing looks, someone or people must have died in the attack,” a local source said, preferring to remain anonymous.
Efforts to reach the Spokesperson of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. A.Y. Jingina, were unsuccessful, as he neither picked nor returned calls.
The attack on the military base is the latest in a series of assaults by Boko Haram insurgents in the region, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by the Nigerian military.
