The Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, on Tuesday urged no fewer than 56 medical graduates to resist the urge to flee the country but to seek ways improve the system.

Njodi who was represented by Professor Mu’azu Shehu, called on the young medics to desist from jettisoning the country in the quest for greener pastures.
He made this disclosure as the chairman College of Medical Sciences, Gombe State Unity fifth attestation and second annual Professor Idris Mohammed lectures’ series.

“We are aware about the challenges of brain drain; We know how enticing it’s to want to travel outside to practice whatever you do or find yourself think Gombe State,” he added.
While congratulating the graduands for attaining the feat, Njodi added “Covid-19 has shown us how important medical practice is to the world.”

The Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr Fatima Kyari, who was represented by Dr Tijjani Ali, lauded the young medics urging them to feel privileged instead of unnecessary entitlements.
She said, “We hope this brings hope in the profession. We are committed to supporting you. Feel privileged and not entitled for every patient you encounter has fears, challenges.This profession respects seniority you must respect your seniors.”
Kyari further urged parents to allow their children proceed on housemanship stressing that they should not present unnecessary barriers, “To parents and guardians allow your children to go for housemanship, because you will learn a lot. It will be your professional certification after which national youth service. Know when to refer, know when to get second opinion,” the Registrar added.
On his part, Provost of the College, Professor Mohammed Manga, commended the university management and Gombe State Government for making the institution formidable nationwide and globally.
He added, “This is a great feat indeed, this is the largest so far. This year we are graduating 56 medical doctors bringing the total so far to 185 in five years.”
While commending the young doctors, Manga urged them to be patient, saying “My dear medical doctors make everyone proud.”
Manga noted that the Idris Mohammed lectures’ series has come to stay, “the idea is to share knowledge between the older generation to the younger ones,” he added.
