The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples, scheduled for February 27.

The chairman of the organising committee, Suleiman Argungu, told journalists on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi that the wedding is being organized in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), a non-governmental organization.

He stated that various committees have been established to oversee key requirements such as pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV/AIDS tests, and other lawful prerequisites for marriages in the state.

Mr. Argungu emphasized that the mass wedding is a fulfillment of a promise made by Governor Nasir Idris during the last mass wedding, where he pledged that such events would be held periodically to assist less privileged individuals in getting married.

He revealed that the Kebbi State government will provide ₦180,000 as dowry for each bride from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

Additionally, room furniture and foodstuffs will be provided to all the couples to help strengthen their marital relationships.

Mr. Argungu further noted that the wedding will be solemnised after extensive consultations with Islamic scholars, ensuring that it aligns with the practices of the Noble Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW).

This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting low-income individuals and promoting stable family units within the state.
