In a disturbing incident, officers from the Nigeria Police Force, attached to the Ogwashi-Uku division, were caught on video assaulting the President of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Student Union Government (SUG).

The video, which has now gone viral, shows the SUG President alleging that the officers demanded a bribe of N500 from him. When he refused to comply, they slapped him and assaulted him.

According to the SUG President, the police officers stopped his vehicle and demanded the bribe, but when he refused to give it, the officers responded violently.

“You slapped me because I refused to settle you. You will see what you have never seen in your life before,” he said in the video.

The SUG President, who was recording the incident, went on to say, “Ogwashi-Uku divisional police slapped me, SUG president, because I refused to settle them in my vehicle… because I refused to give him N500.”

As the officers tried to retreat, he followed them, shouting at them for their actions, calling them “criminals.” He also claimed that the officers threatened to shoot him, and one officer eventually fired a shot into the air, hitting his vehicle.

In the video, the SUG President is heard shouting, “They are shooting at us. They are shooting at my vehicle.”

When reached for a comment, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, acknowledged receiving a message about the incident but did not respond directly.

However, in a post on his X page, he confirmed that the police command was investigating the matter. He also defended the officers, blaming the SUG President for calling them criminals and thieves, and criticized him for being hostile.

Edafe added, “While we are looking into this incident, his allegations of them asking for N500 remains an allegation, and we are investigating it. He said they hit him; that’s also wrong, and the officer is presently detained. However, we should not encourage the behavior of the SUG President being so hostile at policemen deployed because of the kidnapping complaints in that area.”

He also stated that the SUG President’s language should not be encouraged, despite the ongoing investigation.

This incident has sparked outrage, with many questioning the conduct of the police officers and calling for accountability. It remains to be seen what actions will be taken as the investigation unfolds.

Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favourite justification seemed to be on the web the simplest thing to take into account of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while folks consider concerns that they just don’t recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thanks
