The Gombe State Police Command on Sunday arrested a 52-year-old suspected impersonator, dealer, and supplier of Indian hemp, identified as Vincent Ojo from Rukuba quarters area of Jos North, Plateau State.
According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect was arrested on February 22, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m. by police officers attached to Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki.
Our correspondent reports that the officers were on patrol at Jekadafari area of Gombe during the state’s end-of-the-month general sanitation.
“The suspect presented himself as a police officer serving at Force Headquarters Abuja, but during interrogation, he couldn’t provide his staff tag, rank, or department,” Abdullahi said.
A search of the suspect’s vehicle, a black Lexus with registration number GWA79CN Abuja, uncovered 495 kilograms of Indian hemp, valued at approximately ₦12,652,000. An additional number plate, BWR290AX, was also recovered as evidence.
The suspect confessed to buying and transporting the Indian hemp from Ajegunle village in Elesha LGA, Osun State, to old Rukuba in Plateau State, with the intention of delivering it to Biu LGA in Borno State.
Abdullahi noted that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court for possible prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation. The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
