Tems has won her first individual Grammy Award at the 2025 edition of the global ceremony.
She took home the award for Best African Music Performance with her hit single “Love Me Jeje”.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Tems beat out stiff competition from Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Davido, Asake, Yemi Alade, and others to emerge victorious.
In her acceptance speech, Tems expressed her gratitude, saying, “Dear God, thank you so much for putting me on this stage and giving me this team.”
She also thanked her mother, who was in attendance at the ceremony, saying, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and she’s here for her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, mum, because she’s done a lot for me and my brother.”
Our correspondent reports that this win adds to Tems’ already impressive Grammy journey. In 2023, she won her first Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future’s “Wait For You”, featuring Drake, at the 65th Annual Grammys. For 2025, Tems received a total of eight nominations, with “Love Me JeJe” winning Best African Music Performance. She was also nominated for Best R&B Song with “Burning” and Best Global Music Album with “Born in the Wild.”
At just 29 years old, Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, has seen a meteoric rise in her career.
