Oftentimes, your electricity bill comes and you find that it is quite high, and you wonder how you consumed such electricity in a month. It could be that your bill actually gets high because you do not conduct an energy audit to find out where the leakages that exacerbate your bill come from. Here are some tips to conserve energy:

All your lights and gadgets do not have to be on at the same time. Put off your bulbs, television, and even refrigerator when you are not using them at a particular time. Ensure every bulb or light connection has its switch. It makes no sense leaving your bulbs on in facilities not in use. Your refrigerator does not need to be on till daybreak. Once you check and find that the things inside are cold or frozen, put the refrigerator off at night and put it back on in the morning.
If one refrigerator can contain the contents of two, put everything in one refrigerator and put the other off. Put on your security light at night and put off your inside light. But ensure you put off your security light early. The earlier you put off your security light, the more money you save on energy. Same should be applicable for passage lights.
If you run a business, watch how customers and your staff use your energy. Persons always coming to charge phones in your office increase the consumption of electricity. If you run a hotel, always check the rooms to ensure the air conditioners and lights are off when guests are out. You may need to employ an energy compliance officer; it is cheaper to do in the long run, as you can save as much as half a million naira in a month from the activities of your compliance officer, who can also be put to other tasks in the firm.
Fix only energy-saving bulbs. Do not put on your wall sockets when not in use; once it is not active, put it off. If your meter is running too fast, check the earthing system and get the Distribution Company and your electrician to do an integrity test, which could lead to an adjustment that will reduce the bill. Do all these in one month and thank me later.
