No fewer than 34, 2024 batch A stream II corps members have had their service year extended for absenteeism.
Disclosing this on Thursday at a low-key passing out ceremony of 1,394 corps members in Gombe, State Coordinator Chinwe Nwachuku, added that those receiving their certificates comprise 879 males and 515 females.
Nwachuku lauded the 1,394 for heartily complete their service, urging them to utilise the skills acquired to impact themselves and their communities.
She said, “Young compatriots, may I use this medium to commend your efforts in Community Development Service. The essence of the CDS is to leave your host communities better than you met them by initiating and executing viable projects, by so doing you not only endeared yourself to the people, but you also leaving lasting legacies to be remembered by.
“I therefore commend most of you that took the initiative to execute projects in their host communities. I have no doubt, that your effort shall be rewarded.
“As you depart from this scheme, I urge you to build on the skills and knowledge you have acquired, particularly through the SAED program. Remember that the true test of your character and abilities lies ahead, and I charge you to be ambassadors not only of the NYSC but also of our great nation.
“Go forth and make a positive impact in Nigeria and the world at large our host communities using the experiences you have gained to drive innovation, entrepreneurship and progress. Be agents of change, promoting unity, tolerance and understanding wherever you find yourself.”
Continuing Nwachuku added, “As we continue to prioritize your safety and security, we strongly advise against night journeys. Once again, I congratulate you on completion your service year. May the lessons and friendships you have made during your time with us stay with you forever, guiding and inspiring you to achieve greatness.”
While detailing the figures, and reason for the extension, the Coordinator added “34 got service extension for truancy. I wish you God’s blessings as you commence the next phase of your lives.In conclusion, on behalf of the Director General of NYSC and the Governor of Gombe state, I hereby declare 2024 batch ‘A’ II service year closed.”
