Aliko Dangote Foundation on Friday unveiled 25,000 bags of 10kg rice as palliative to poor and vulnerable in Gombe State.
Our correspondent reports that Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, Christian Association of Nigeria; women and youth wings, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Civil Society Organisations include list of beneficiaries.
Truckloads of the 10kg rice bound for the 11 Local Government Areas of the state were also unveiled.
Receiving the donation, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by Chief of Staff Government House, Inuwa Kyari, lauded the foundation for its magnanimity, stressing that the targeted people would be factored in the distribution.
“We want to thank Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for the show of support to the people of Gombe State, and for increasing the number of people to benefit from this. The items would be distributed to the vulnerable people in the state,” Yahaya said.
On his part, Executive Secretary of Gombe State Emergency Management Agency Haruna Abdullahi, said the items would be properly channelled to the poor, adding “this one is an improvement from that of last year; this particular donation has placed emphasis on the 114 wards, 11 LGAs and groups including orphanages in the state.”
Also, Chairman of Gombe Local Government Barrister Sani Haruna, while lauding the foundation noted that the governor has provided an enviable model of extending supports to residents, “On the first day of Ramadan we had a distribution of palliatives where many benefitted and it was successful. This palliative will be distributed in a way that more people especially those who couldn’t get earlier would be considered.”
On her part, Chairperson of Shongom Local Government Area, Binta Bello, lauded the foundation for the support promising that vulnerable members of her area would be prioritised, adding “We will ensure that those that it’s meant receive this palliative. We want to thank Aliko Dangote Foundation for the show of love.”
CAN Chairman, Rev Joseph Shinga praised the governor and the foundation urging God to reward them abundantly, “We are grateful to be included among the list of beneficiaries. We thank the governor and the foundation for providing this palliative,” he added.
JNI Secretary, Alhaji Saleh Danburam, hailed the gesture, saying “this will go a long way in providing succour to poor and vulnerable at this time.”
