On Thursday, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, declared that the nation is now engaged in a “war of independence” rather than a conventional battle against terrorism.

Speaking in Ziniaré at the inauguration of a cement plant, Traoré emphasized that the ongoing conflict is fueled by “imperialist logic” and urged citizens to remain committed to securing national sovereignty.

“I hope everyone has realised that we are no longer in a war against terrorism but a war of independence. We must understand that this war was imposed on us by imperialist logic,” AIB quoted him as saying.

He further explained that all nations act in their own interests, asserting that developed countries continue to exploit cheap raw materials to sustain their industries and provide jobs.

“It is, therefore, logical that they want to dominate us and keep us in a permanent state of war in order to prevent us from thinking and developing,” he stated.

Traoré called on Burkinabe citizens to actively participate in efforts to secure the country’s independence, urging:

“They are defending their interests in the wrong way, of course, but we must fight to free ourselves and get out of this situation.”
