No fewer than four companies have received Standards Organisation of Nigeria Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme to producer of Plaster of Paris and electric poles in Gombe State.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the organisations include Maja pop, Habbos Nigeria Limited, NCCE Limited and GAN Electrical and Technology Services Input Limited.

Speaking shortly after handing the MANCAP certifications to the companies on Monday, Gombe State Coordinator, Standards Organisation of Nigeria Mohammed Burkar, urged buyers to lookout for the SON logo when buying to ensure that counterfeits are mitigated to end loss of lives.
He said, “There are two pop and electric pole companies. We certified them because of the life endangering nature of their products. Some of them have been pursuing this MANCAP certification for over seven years; you know whenever we test and the product fails we have to start all over again.
“Standardisation is a journey, the standard determines the market share of the products, we started with factory inspection, surveillance inspection. It is important to buy certified products to ensure that there is no loss of lives from pop collapse or electric poles carrying current.”

Bukar urged them to maintain standard saying, “this is the begining of your journey because if those buying your your products are not satisfied with the products no matter the standard you have there is useless.”
Continuing the SON boss added, “This is to show SON has checked your product and they are up to standard for you to maintain the quality it will open more market avenues for you and people will have more confidence in your product. Once people have confidence in your product, you may not do marketing again because the products will market itself.”
Bukar disclosed that the PoP market is an untapped space that would boost the country’s gross domestic product, “What we have at the moment is people bringing it from Turkey, we need people our business owners to explore the PoP manufacturing we have the raw materials here. They will comfortably compete, Nigeria is a blessed country,” he added.
Bukar admonished the companies to be SON’s ambassador, adding that if they reduce standard the certification will be invalid.
