The Gombe State Government has distributed 27 appointments to new district and village heads across Waja, Deba, Yamaltu, and Gombe Emirates and Chiefdom. The appointments were made to fill vacancies left by the deaths of previous leaders.



Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, led the delegation to present the appointments, emphasising the increased responsibilities of the new appointees. “They must ensure loyalty to superiors, administer justice, submit regular reports, and maintain peace in their respective areas,” he said.
Jatau also highlighted the importance of appointees residing within their territories and warned against holding dual appointments. “We must adopt the principle of ‘Know Your Citizens’ to provide effective leadership and encourage environmental protection,” he added.
Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Secretary to the State Government, explained the delay in appointments was due to thorough background checks on nominees. “This process ensures the selection of men of integrity and promotes effective leadership control in the chiefdoms,” he said.
The new appointments include Waja one district head, six village heads, Deba three district heads, six village heads, Yamaltu one district head, four village heads, Gombe three district heads, six village heads.
Local government chairmen praised the Governor’s administrative prowess, while traditional rulers pledged their support for the administration. The Emir of Yamaltu, Alh. Abubakar Aliyu, conferred the traditional title of Danruwatan Yamaltu on Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau for his contribution to the development of Yamaltu emirate.
