A palliative distribution truck was on Sunday obstructed from proceeding to a warehouse by some youths around old Bauchi park located on Gombe-Bauchi expressway.

According to a viral video obtained by our correspondent the truck was conveying food stuffs belonging to Renewed Hope Youth Initiative before desperate residents looted the food items.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people scrambling to get their hands on the palliatives. “I was there when it happened, and it was like hunger has affected the brains of some persons,” said an eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous. “People were pushing and shoving, trying to get to the palliatives. It was a sad sight to see.”
Another eyewitness, who was also present at the scene, expressed frustration at the lack of organisation and security. “The truck was on it way to the point where items would be offloaded for distribution before they climbed and started carrying items planned, and there were not enough security personnel to maintain order. It was a recipe for disaster.”
A good governance advocate, Bulus Adamu, while reacting on the development noted that the looting of palliatives highlighted the desperation and hunger in the land, “They are hungry, and need food. The government should do more to help our youths.”
