The Gombe State Police Command on Saturday clarified an ongoing investigation into a case involving criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, attempt to commit culpable homicide, and receiving stolen property.
Our correspondent reports that this is a sequel to a viral video by Shiekh Albany Gombe made allegedly misleading claims about the investigation.
The police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi, in a press statement said, “The attention of the Gombe State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video credited to Shiekh Albany Gombe, currently circulating on social media, in which the cleric is seen making misleading, inciting, and factually incorrect claims regarding an ongoing police investigation.”
Abdullahi disclosed that two suspects, Daniel Hamma, 36, and Garba Usman alias Mali, 32, were arrested in connection with the crime, adding “During the investigation, a search warrant was executed at Garba Usman’s residence, where the police recovered Two red motorcycles, one cutlass, various motorcycle spare parts, some police accouterments.”
He noted that the suspects confessed to the March 1, 2025, armed robbery and homicide incident, where a victim was brutally attacked and killed noting that urther investigation led to the arrest of Bala Danyaya, 29, who confessed to receiving six motorcycles from the suspects between 2024 and 2025.
The police command also addressed a false claim made by the cleric that all suspects are non-Muslims. “This is categorically untrue,” the command stated. “The second suspect, Garba Usman alias Mali, as well as the receiver of the stolen motorcycles, Bala Danyaya, are both Muslims. Such divisive and religiously charged misrepresentations are not only irresponsible but dangerous to societal peace,” he added.
Abdullahi, cautioned the public, saying, “We strongly caution members of the public, particularly individuals in positions of influence, to desist from making inciting, misleading, or inflammatory statements that could jeopardise police investigations or trigger unrest. Misinformation, especially along religious or ethnic lines, is a serious threat to law and order.”
He confirmed that the suspects remain in police custody, and the investigation continues, stressing “they will be charged to court upon conclusion, with the Command committed to transparency, justice, and maintaining peace and security across Gombe State.”
