Residents of Taraba State on Saturday decried what they described as zero infrastructural progress two years into the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas.
According to them, the governor has failed to make a meaningful impact that could have improved the state’s infrastructure within his first two years in office.
They lamented that capital development in Taraba has remained stagnant since former Governor Darius Ishaku left office.
Those who spoke with our correspondent in separate interviews included Dr Kefas Nyajo, Andrew Ada, Ambita Ezra, Musa John Adi, and Titus Habu Kona. They noted that while general development in the state continues to face undefined setbacks, infrastructural development has virtually stalled under Governor Kefas.
“It’s unfortunate that we have found ourselves in an era of failed promises. Under Governor Agbu Kefas, all we have seen so far is disappointment. Imagine — after two years in office, the governor cannot point to a single completed project,” one of the residents said.
“The governor promised to attract massive development, but so far, we are witnessing what may be the worst government in the history of Taraba State.
“Unlike past administrations, Kefas has yet to execute any visible project. Despite borrowing heavily and making bold promises to transform the state, there is no positive impact to show.”
The residents referenced the €150 million, 30-year loan agreement signed in June 2024 by the Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun, on behalf of Taraba, Benue, Edo, Anambra, Borno, and Cross River states. Each state was allocated €25 million to construct 500 kilometers of rural roads.
“While other states have begun implementing the project, here in Taraba, not even half a kilometer of road has been constructed,” another resident lamented.
“This is the worst government we have seen since the creation of Taraba State. We wish to apologise to former Governor Darius Ishaku for criticising him over his performance. We never knew things could get worse under Governor Kefas.”
They also criticised the recent invitation extended to President Bola Tinubu to visit Taraba, describing it as an attempt to cover up the administration’s failures.
“Due to the poor performance of Governor Agbu Kefas, Taraba now ranks among the states with the highest poverty index in Nigeria.
“We call on all citizens to begin prayers and fasting for the liberation of our dear state from the current mess and abysmal governance,” the residents concluded.
