The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has elected new executives, with Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel emerged as the new chairman of the party, marking a new chapter in the party’s history in the state.

It could be recalled that Hon. Babandi Gumel was the running mate of Mustapha Lamido, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state in the 2023 general elections and prior to that, he had served as the state chairman of the party before relinquishing the position to join the gubernatorial candidature.

The election, which took place on Saturday at Malam Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the State capital, saw 39 new executives elected, with party supporters and officials from across the 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in attendance.

The election which most of the elected officials emerged almost unopposed was conducted under the supervision of a committee appointed by the national headquarters of the party from Abuja, led by Barrister Isa Ahmed.

Announcing the newly elected executives of the party in the state, the chairman of the election committee, Barrister Isa Ahmad declared that Alhaji Babandi Gumel emerged as the new State Chairman of the party, with Umar Danjani as his deputy,

Other elected officials as declared by barrister Ahmad includes; Muhammad Bahutu as State Secretary, Kabiru Kazaure as State Organizing Secretary, Ali Muhammad as State Youths Leader, and Umar Kyari as Publicity Secretary.

Accordingly he pronounced that the new elected executives also include Murja Garki as Women Leader, Isyaku Maruta as State Legal Adviser, Babangida Roni as State Financial Secretary, Alhassan Babandi as State Treasurer, and Ali Badala as State Auditor, among others.

“The elected officials will serve for the next three years, and their emergence is expected to bring new energy and dynamism to the party in Jigawa State,” Ahmad stated.

In his speech shortly after being sworn in, Alhaji Babandi Gumel promised to work towards rebuilding and strengthening the party in Jigawa State. “We will ensure that our party is united and focused on delivering good governance to the people of Jigawa,” he said.

The new state chairman appealed to party members to put aside differences and work together towards achieving common goals. “We need to work together to build a strong and vibrant party that can challenge the ruling party in the state,” he added.

Babandi Gumel also vowed to prioritize the needs of party members and supporters, promising to be accessible and responsive to their concerns. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that our party is the best it can be, and we will not rest until we achieve our goals,” he said.

Also the chairman noted that “We are committed to working hard to ensure that our party emerges victorious in future elections.”

He, however promised to engage with stakeholders and party members across the state to identify areas of strength and weakness and develop strategies to improve the party’s fortunes, emphasising that “We will work with all stakeholders to build a strong and united party.”

“We are confident that with our team, we can achieve great things for our party and the people of Jigawa,” he said.
