I want to use this medium to thank, Accountant general and the Treasury House staff by using biometric attendance in order to eradicate ghost workers and ghost pensioners despite the monthly regular challenges by the Thumbprinting machines.

Further more, I want to give special thanks, and also draw the attention of PAYRITES in order to be more aware of the situation with Gombe state workers & pensioners engaging in “hanky-panky” moves and sabotaging the biometric attendance system suggests a lack of trust, transparency, and accountability in the state’s workforce. This behavior can have serious consequences, including:

• Inaccurate Attendance Records: Sabotaging the biometric system can lead to inaccurate attendance records, making it challenging to track employee attendance and productivity.

• Loss of Trust: Such behavior can erode trust between employees and management, creating a negative work environment.

• Decreased Productivity: Sabotage can disrupt the workflow, leading to decreased productivity and efficiency.

Possible Reasons:

• Resistance to Change: Workers might resist the implementation of biometric attendance systems due to concerns about job security, increased scrutiny, or changes to their routine.

• Fear of Accountability: Biometric attendance systems can help track employee attendance and productivity. Workers might sabotage the system to avoid being held accountable for their attendance or performance.

•Lack of Training: Inadequate training on the use of biometric attendance systems can lead to errors, frustration, and potential sabotage.

In my opinion to harmonize the situation with Gombe State workers engaging in “hanky-panky” moves and sabotaging the biometric attendance system, kindly consider the following steps in addressing the Issues:

Investigate and Identify Root Causes: Determine the underlying reasons for the sabotage and “hanky-panky” moves, such as resistance to change, fear of accountability, or lack of training.

Communicate Benefits and Purpose: Clearly explain the benefits and purpose of the biometric attendance system to workers, highlighting how it can improve productivity, fairness, and transparency

Provide Training and Support: Offer adequate training and support to ensure workers and pensioners understand how to use the biometric system correctly and address any technical issues.

Consideration for building trust and accountability:

Foster Open Communication: Encourage open communication between management, workers and pensioners to address concerns and provide feedback.

Establish Clear Policies and Procedures: Develop and communicate clear policies and procedures for attendance, productivity, and accountability.

Implement Fair Disciplinary Actions: Take fair and consistent disciplinary actions against workers and pensioners who engage in sabotage or other unacceptable behavior.

Promoting a Positive Work Environment:

Recognise and reward workers who demonstrate good attendance, productivity, and teamwork.

Address any underlying issues related to working conditions, such as infrastructure, equipment, or resources.

Foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration among workers to promote a positive and productive work environment.

In conclusion, addressing the root causes of the issues, building trust and accountability, and promoting a positive work environment, we can harmonize the situation and improve productivity in Gombe State at large.

Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III
Chairman Gombe State Government counsel of Chiefs.

Thanks for your understanding!
