The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Gombe State Council, on Thursday joined the nation in commemorating Workers’ Day, recognising the invaluable contributions of workers to Nigeria’s economic development.

In a statement, signed by Faruk Muazu Gombe, Chairman, and Shuaibu Umar, Secretary, NUJ Gombe State Council extended warm greetings to all workers in the state, acknowledging their hard work and dedication to duty, which has been instrumental in the growth and development of the state.

The NUJ expressed solidarity with workers, particularly journalists, who have continued to play a critical role in shaping public opinion and holding those in power accountable.

The union called on government and employers to prioritise the welfare of workers by providing better working conditions, adequate remuneration, and social security.

The statement partly read, “We commend workers in the state for their resilience and dedication to duty.
“We reaffirm our commitment to promoting the welfare and interests of journalists and workers in the state.”
